Interesting episode tonight as Isaac emerged as the candidate with the highest score (90 marks) and immediately Sam accused him of cheating since he saw him leaving his room and his laptop on. Isaac admitted to wanting to see the Q&A folders but said he didn't and he found his studying method and he didn't have to cheat. In some ways Sam wanted to believe Isaac which was why he made sure Isaac got second chance to resit his paper that day itself. But Isaac thought Sam was against him since he was Sam's brother. He did the exams again and this time got 100 marks. When Sam walked by and congratulated Isaac, Isaac was very angry and said "You just wanted to prove to others that you are fair and just...as long as you don't try to sabotage me...I would be very grateful even if you don't help me.." and Sam was very hurt and Sam said "which is why I am no longer qualified to be your instructor".
That night Sam wanted to quit when he saw Isaac's card which wrote "I wish to triumph in the skies with you my brother" as previously Sam wrote in his card "I wish that you will be able to triumph in the skies" and Sam suddenly felt like (sorry to use such word) shit. Then he went to Isaac's room and saw his room plasted with notes and he was suddenly so overwhelmed that he had doubted his brother he was almost in tears.
At the meantime Isaac was scolded by his classmates who said they believed Sam didn't have to get him that second chance but he did which proves Sam actually believed in Isaac. The next morning Isaac went in search of Sam and found him packing and getting into his car. Isaac apologised to Sam for being rude and inconsiderate and asked Sam to reconsider when Sam said he only wanted to go back to HK for awhile. And so happy ending for these 2 brothers who gained mutual trust and respect that fateful morning.
Back home Sam was invited by Vincent to go to his house for dinner. Sam was reluctant but had to say yes. When Belle found out she freaked out, because obviously she still love Sam and didn't know how to face him in this 3 way relationship. So she went to Ruby's house (Paul was staying with Ruby and I didn't get that scene so can't narrate further here) where Zoe was there. When Zoe heard Sam's name, she immediately volunteered to go to that dinner with Belle and Belle was glad there would be someone else.
At the meantime Vincent was shopping for groceries when he saw that ex girlfriend of his hat started all these misunderstanding and that ex-girlfriend asked why he let Sam go to his house and Vincent's answer was simple; Sam was his best friend, he didn't want to lose either of them, he want to get over with the potentially embarassing moment so that they can move on and be friends and moreover, he said he was willing to take the risk...
Meanwhile Zoe called Sam and asked Sam to pick her up. Previously when he was at Adelaide, she emailed him and Sam called her to thank her for her concern. Back in the car Sam seemed spaced out until Zoe happily chatted with Sam and he began to loosen up. Back at Belle's place, there were some shyness and all but thanks to Zoe who broke the ice by simply being the liveliest one around, the dinner was a success and that night ended with a game of guessing what Zoe was asking about and Sam managed to get it all right and the night went on with laughter and ease.
Next week, Zoe will make her move. GO GIRL!
Anyway, 3 very good scenes in this gem of an episode. The scene where Sam was overwhelmed by emotions when he was in Isaac's room, the scene where Vincent said Zoe reminded him of his little sister, and Zoe playfully answered "You're saying I am a little girl? I am not a little girl!" and Sam and Vincent both answered "You ARE a little girl!" and that last scene with the guessing game which was really very funny. For once we will get to see a very loosen up Sam thanks to the lively and bubbly Zoe. Indeed, Sam needs Zoe. She makes him laugh.
Some TV mistakes here. Just one. The scene where in the 2nd test where Isaac scored 100% (meaning full marks) one of the trainer said to Isaac, "Congratulations, you got full marks again". If I remembered correctly, this was the first official test and he sat it twice and the first time he got 90% so how can he then get 100% AGAIN?
And we get to hear Francis Ng speak horrible English again and Ron Ng as well, bad English which explains why they're brothers. Isn't Isaac supposed to come back from somewhere?
Veyr little scene about the rest of the gang though.
I do want to see the possibility of Zoe and Isaac, but looks like there won't be any though early indications pointed that way.
Performance wise, I feel Ron Ng could improve but when he is in a scene with Francis Ng, he always did better than alone or with someone else. I do think he looks good in that uniform.
Francis Ng didn't quite ruled tonight because there was one scene he was so angry with Ron's Isaac whom he thought cheated in the exams that he scolded Isaac and banged the table, in a very soft way like I didn't even hear the sound. The scene where he spoke English, begging the examiner to give Isaac a 2nd chance was hideously slow and very painful to watch. Other than that he was great, in fact the best amongst others but not the best amongst the few previous episodes.
Joe Ma is still laughing like a mad man. But when he needs to be serious, he stops laughing. But the thing is I don't like watching him. He bores me. I was thinking that perhaps Moses Chan can play Vincent but he's not flamboyant enough. But he can speak good English I bet.
Flora Chan was ok but her role here is getting too one dimensional. I must mention that Belle and Vincent have their HIS and HER towels, cups, chopsticks ... married life..
Myolie Wu rules. She is cute, lively, bubbly and at times flirtatious to Francis' Sam as her eyes twinkled with excitement when she saw Sam or even when she heard his name being uttered but of course Sam didn't notice it all. It will be great to see how her Zoe will develop later on.
Next week, I am sure more excitement, more flying lessons and more drama.
Closing credits had someone (can't remember the actor's name) explaining exactly how a pilot is trained; 60 weeks at Adelaide, exams after exams, some 200 hours of practical training, then a few months of being I think a trainee pilot but piloting perhaps a small plane or cargo plane ... and then of course to humans after going up the ranks. So if this series just cut all that with Isaac suddenly flying Solar Airlines' plane just after graduating, you know TVB is jumping the gun here.
One thing I must note; I thought I saw in the preview that gwailo we always see in TVB series who speaks fluent English. He is also a pilot in here and we see him in a short scene earlier on, not even uttering a word. And guess what? Next week his character will suffer a heart attack when flying a plane and I presume dies without uttering a single dialogue. This must be a first in TVB history I guess.
I must say, I can see what is all the fuss with this series. But I also know when that Zita-Donald-Isaac story kicks in, we will have the usual same old boring plot. And let me guess; Vincent will die, that I know and I guess Belle might be over reliant on Sam and Zoe will try to ignore it but couldn't?
